Bridging Now to Next
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated as a time dedicated to strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians
Every year there is a theme for National Reconciliation Week, which reinforces the idea that we all have a part to play. This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
The children in the Djeran and Djilba rooms spent time creating a bridge that they adorned with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander symbols to place in the foyer. The idea of the bridge was to encourage involvement from our families, children, educators and members of staff to decorate a paper person that represents themselves and their voice in supporting bridging the gap.
Through our ongoing engagement with First Nations’ cultures and identities we will ensure a focus on Whadjuk Noongar cultures and we will continue to learn alongside one another openly, honestly and with integrity as we work our way closer to bridging the gap.
